The complete guide to the Kuwait (KMLE/KDLE) licensing exam
Kuwait's Ministry of Health licenses dentists through an employer-led process: your future employer requests the licence, you sit a Prometric exam, and you're interviewed by the MOH specialty committee. Kuwait publishes very little about the exam itself — so this guide separates what's official from what candidates report.

What makes Kuwait different
An employer-led process
What Kuwait's official procedure says — and what is only reported by candidates.
Specialty committee
Kuwait's official procedure sends your request to the MOH specialty committee for an interview, followed by a medical check-up.
Starts the request
The application needs a licence request letter from the medical institute that will employ you.
Reported pass mark
*Reported by candidates, along with 150 questions in 3 hours. Kuwait MOH does not publish these figures.
National KDLE planned
Kuwaiti press reported in April 2026 that a formal national dental licensing exam (KDLE) will apply to newly graduated dentists from 2027.
The pathway
From eligibility to a Kuwait license
Based on Kuwait's official dentist-permit procedure.
Step 1: Confirm your eligibility
A BDS or equivalent degree. Kuwait MOH doesn't publish a minimum-experience figure; candidates commonly report several years of post-internship experience being expected. Confirm with your prospective employer and MOH.
Step 2: Your employer requests the licence
The medical institute that will employ you submits a licence request letter with your documents. There are separate procedures for the private and government sectors.
Step 3: Book your Prometric slot
Kuwait MOH's exams run at Prometric centres. Book once MOH gives you eligibility.
Step 4: Sit the Prometric exam
Kuwait doesn't publish the format. Candidates report 150 multiple-choice questions in 3 hours, often clinical scenarios with images.
Step 5: Specialty-committee interview
Kuwait's official procedure presents your request to the MOH specialty committee for a personal interview.
Step 6: Medical check and licence approval
After the interview comes a medical check-up, then primary approval from the Medical License Committee.

What makes Kuwait's process different
What Kuwait's official procedure says, and what to confirm yourself.
An interview, not just an exam
Kuwait's official procedure includes a personal interview with the MOH specialty committee, after which comes a medical check-up.
Experience rules are not published
Kuwait MOH doesn't publish a minimum-experience figure for general dentists. Candidates report a higher bar than in the UAE — confirm with your employer before you plan around it.
You need an employer
The official procedure starts with a licence request letter from the medical institute that will employ you — you can't complete licensing on your own.
Attempt limits are not published
We found no official Kuwait MOH attempt rule. Ask MOH or your employer before you book a re-sit.
Format and pass mark are reported, not official
Candidates report 150 MCQs, 3 hours, a 60% pass mark and no negative marking. Kuwait MOH doesn't publish any of these, so treat them as a guide, not a rule.
No shared attempt pool with the UAE, Saudi or Qatar
Kuwait's MOH runs its own independent system — a DHA, HAAD, MOH, QCHP or SMLE result has no bearing here, and vice versa.
What the exam actually covers
No published percentage blueprint — here's the confirmed shape
Kuwait's MOH doesn't publish a blueprint or subject weights. These are the core General Dentist areas candidates report — not an official MOH list.

- Endodontics
- Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
- Prosthodontics

KMLE / KDLE FAQ
Questions candidates actually ask
Answered against how Kuwait's process runs today, including where the answer has genuinely changed recently.
Is it called KMLE or KDLE?
You'll see both. "KMLE" is the doctors' name and "KDLE" the dentists' — today both are informal names for the Kuwait MOH licensing exam. Kuwaiti press reported in April 2026 that a formal national KDLE for newly graduated dentists will start in 2027.
Do I need an employer to apply?
Yes. Kuwait's official procedure requires a licence request letter from the medical institute that will employ you. There are separate procedures for private-sector and government-sector jobs.
Is there an interview?
Yes. The official procedure presents your request to the MOH specialty committee for a personal interview, then a medical check-up, then Medical License Committee approval. Kuwait doesn't publish what the interview covers.
How many attempts do I get?
Kuwait MOH doesn't publish an attempt limit, and we found no official rule. Confirm with MOH or your employer before booking a re-sit.
How much experience do I need?
Kuwait MOH doesn't publish a figure. Candidates commonly report around five to six years after internship, but treat that as unofficial and confirm with your employer.
Will my DHA, QCHP or SMLE result count for anything in Kuwait?
No — Kuwait's MOH runs its own process, separate from the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
How long does licensing take?
Kuwait doesn't publish timelines for the exam result or the committee stages. Ask your employer's HR team, who submit the request.
